Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, the Indian version of Strictly Come Dancing. A dance competition in which a celebrity and choreographer are paired together; and they compete to win the trophy. A show where ultimately the winner is decided based on both scores and votes. Well this is what we are told but the fact is that reality is not always the same. It is not an unknown fact that reality shows are scripted and everyone is a puppet; all the strings are pulled from the top.
This is the first time we have watched a full season of Jhalak and it had many loopholes; here are just some questions that came to mind:
- Why were Shahid and Ganesh’s comments on Sanaya’s performance not shown in the finale?
- Why in each season are non-dancers competing with trained dancers?
- What is the weightage between SMS votes and online votes?
- How many votes were the contestants getting each week?
- Why at times was there a lack of consistency between judges’ comments and scores?
- Why was the immunity ball given to a contestant before all performances had been seen?
At this point are we looking for answers? The answer is a simple no because JDJ is now over and we do not intend to watch the next season. However, we wanted to pen down our thoughts on the current season of JDJ.
Episode filming:
Coming to the filming of the episode itself, the days were extremely long. For example during the finale shoot Saij was on the sets from 9am to 3.30am the next day. During the finale the shooting of the episode had started and finished later than planned. We felt it could be better organised. Also the order of the shoot is not always the order in which it is shown on television and after editing some scenes are not shown at all. We understand it takes a lot of work to organise such shows but there is always room for improvement.
Sanaya:
We have already written our reviews on Sanaya’s final performances on Facebook. In addition to this we would like to say that in our opinion, we feel Sanaya was given lower scores due to her popularity and high number of votes. Another thing that made no logical sense was to remove Shahid and Ganesh’s comments on Sanaya’s finale act, although most were on repeat mode and had said that the act did not match up to the perfection of the previous aerial act. We highly disagreed with their comments. On that topic, there have been other occasions where the judges’ comments and scores have not been consistent. This anomaly was noticed by the viewers yet it continued.
Sanaya has never been the one to complain about her injuries and she had mentioned this in the recent interview with TeamSarun as well. So prior to her dance with Shahid she had requested two minutes to change due to the pain caused by the outfit. However, the production team was reluctant as they wanted to continue the shoot and so Sanaya agreed to continue. Sanaya is truly a professional.
There is also the issue of scenes being lost in editing. One important scene that was omitted was Sanaya’s comment were she states that she was the one to provide the entertainment on JDJ. A very fair and apt statement by Sanaya, she was the only contestant who made JDJ worth watching!!
Towards the end Sanaya had said she deserves to win as she has put in the most amount of work. For Sanaya, she grew from a non-dancer to a dancer in the last three months. Her growth during the journey was very impressive and this was due to her dedication and hard work. Had she been a dancer already she would have been at an advantage of knowing the technical skills. So the same question arises, is it fair to have a non-dancer and a trained dancer competing with each other?
One question that we came across many times in the past three months was why Sanaya had not been given a more experienced choreographer like Salman. Although we have only seen Salman’s work twice, once during Drashti and Sanaya’s performance in an earlier season and the other time when he choreographed one of the episodes in the current season. On the basis of this, we felt Salman is an excellent dancer. So for a non-dancer, we feel that a more experienced choreographer would only be fair especially when competing with trained dancers.
Final Decision:
We were also asked what the basis of the final decision was. At first even we were baffled but then one of our friends told us that last year there were complaints against Jhalak for only making TV stars a winner. So it seems that this year they were determined to make the winner a non TV star. Earlier there were rumours that Shamita would win however those rumours died down. Then during the finale we came to know that the winner had already been decided. Coming to final decision, regardless of what one thinks of JDJ one should remember that even Faisal worked hard and one should refrain from any negativity. Also bear in mind that even Sanaya was happy for Faisal too.
The show is now over and we may not be happy with the final result but Sanaya will always be a winner for us. We all know she worked very hard and with full sincerity. No trophy is required to prove that Sanaya is the winner for millions of fans globally, now and forever. We are sure there are bigger and better things waiting for her!! So on this note; please do not give a reason for Sanaya to be put in a rather awkward situation by abusing people associated with JDJ. Remember one thing … ‘real winners are the ones who don’t quit despite the odds.’

An extremely well-written & apt post! Agree with it word for word! You have brought to the fore the sordid ‘reality’ of these so-called reality shows! A very mature article too which calls for restraint on our part, if not for anybody else, at least for the sake of Sanaya who has always been a sport, always accepting gracefully whatever fate metes out to her in spite of all her hard work & efforts to go beyond her comfort zone & excel! ColorsTV & JDJ this year from the word ‘go’ has cashed in on Sanaya Irani’s popularity to rake in TRPs! They filled their coffers with the money earned via SMS votes & of course it was again Sanaya’s fans who sent the highest number of SMS-es & spent sleepless nights voting for her online! It’s so sad when we see now how these gullible voters (we, the fans of Sanaya) have been taken for a ride by the channel authorities, by makers of this scripted drama! It’s a pity that the channel authorities used Sanaya’s popularity to the hilt but in return they did everything to mock her from the beginning to the finale! Not to mention here many of the jokes that were cracked at her expense were in poor taste! Is it because Sanaya would never show her anger or hurt & will always smile away to spread happiness around her? The channel authorities must realise that some of their sick jokes outraged us to the core! At the end of the day Sanaya hasn’t lost anything – on the contrary, she has earned more & more of our respect & love for her <3 But of course, the channel authorities, the makers of this show have lost our goodwill forever! Last but not the least, Team SARUN's efforts deserve a big round of applause from all of us! Sanaya was will is the real winner. No body beat her even faisal also. Faisal dance is each and every performances typical one type hip hop, areial just like IGT. Nothing any new .he is master of that dance. Sanaya’s dance is full entertaining and each & every week she done new things if she got low score but she do it. So I m agreed with Team sarun review.

I think Sanaya should have won. I am a huge fan of Barun & Sanaya because of their talent.I think Jay was
wrong choice . Ganeshji has suggested to give her funky music. With her personality she would have done wonders.
I am sorry to say that she lost lots of 40 points because of wrong chorieography. and music.
I will be still fan of Barun & Sanaya.I was little disapointed not to see Barun in the stand!

Madhavi, Barun was in the stands! TeamSarun confirmed it, and when I went back and watched the finale online, I saw him. He was in the stands by the stage wearing black. I was so glad to see him there, but disappointed that Jhalak didn’t explicitly point it out as it would have made Sanaya fans so happy. At least I know now 🙂

Well said Team Sarun. I REALLY wanted Sanaya to win, but Faisal was a good contestant and deserves to enjoy the victory without poison from Sanaya Fans. As for the choreographer- I don’t know about the other choreographers, but Vivek always choreographs the kid contestants so Faisal was going to get him anyway. Vivek was easily the best choreographer, so kids are lucky. It’s sad that they were comparing Sanaya’s last aerial act to score this one. Scores should not be based on comparisons from the past. That is why I totally agree with Lauren’s comment for Sanaya. Sanaa was doing the aerial stunts herself this time, and that was certainly noteworthy. I’m not too bitter about some scenes being cut out because that happens with every single show. There just simply isn’t enough time to put everything. Yes, I wish all judges comments had stayed, but the rest that was cut is okay. Although throughout the seasons judges comments have been cut for contestants, so it’s not some special exception this time and should not be taken personally. I also agree about judges scores not always being consistent with their comments. I wanted Sanaya to win not only because it’s her but because her growth was tremendous. Top three were two dancers and one non-dancer. If any non-dancer is standing in the finale with two dancers, he or she has accomplished something great and deserves that last win just for getting so far.
They have to change their format in finale coz no one could beat Sanaya’s fandom..

He was the best dancer,no doubt.. But the show was about the journey of a non dancer .. judges marks n power of votes..

Colors. You just succeed by spoiling your own channel reputation. Star , Sony and Zee are far more better. Remember, when the finale result was more obvious and more likely to be predictable, it’s just went totally messed up, clueless and dissatisfied. Each season, the trophy were celebrated by the non trained celebrities only. Why changed the legacy? Bringing chances is not a good idea especially when it comes to reality shows. Colors, you just lose it. You lost our audience already.

And no one can change the fact that people all over the world watched a show like Jhalakh only and only because of Sanaya Irani. Completely agree to you Team Sarun, Channel is all responsible for this, It cannot be that they are ignorant of Sanaya’s popularity but they deliberately chose Faisal for not choosing a Non TV Star every season. However We will still be sad for Sanaya as she had really worked hard & desrved the fruit of her pains & injuries, but She is always a winner for us, because The jhalak journey which she went through was a complete hard & sweatful journey, she proved it to everyone that how one can be a professional dancer & artist by her skillful acts despite of having numerous injuries. I love Sanaya to the core. I never ever watched any hindi serial but just because of Barun and Sanaya I got carried away. So this time I am in Japan and could not watch Sanaya’s show I was upset but I contented thinking she will win. When FK was given the trophy I literally felt like punching somebody. My husband thought that I must be missing home (India). Later I told him about the result and guess what he told me that the colorstv must have cheated her and intentionally didn’t let her win.

I feel like Faisal is famous ENOUGH though. Maybe not as much as Sanaya, but he is pretty well known in the world of tv and dance. I mean I knew about him before Jhalak. I think it was more about dancer vs. non-dancer. Ganesh once said non-dancers have always won, so it would be different if a dancer won this season. I don’t agree with it, because I think it is much more impressive if a non-dancer learns to dance than if a dancer keeps performing well. But that’s just the fact.

They cut-off many Sanaya scenes though they are in the sneak peaks and They should have given a experienced choreographer and if they really wanted to change the format of the winner from a popular T.V actor to a professional dancer then they should have declared that before so we would have not been in this state of mind now but we just feel like Colors have cheated us.
